Keywords - Boosting Search Engine Rankings

Keywords How to raise your website on searches

In an ever increasingly competitive online marketing, the use of keywords is becoming of greater importance to web advertisers. A keyword is a specific term or phrase which is used to find a relevant website meaning that if they are not right, traffic won't get to your page and profits will be very hard to come by. So, what is the answer to developing keywords that raise your website on search engines?

What is Niche Marketing?

The current consumer marketplace is one where we are bombarded with choices. Whether it be mobile phones, cars, internet providers or even baked beans, there is always numerous options to choose from. With the advent of affiliate marketing and the increased competition within the online community, many marketers have started to find it difficult to sell their generic' products. This is where the concept of niche marketing has developed.

Some good advertising.....

I recently found this great bit of advertising from our office friends at Post-It. The 'Never Forget Her Name Again' scheme. It wouldn't recommend that you start doing this to colleagues though although I can see the advantages of implementing it in large companies. Surely this guy would've been far too drunk to write so well?

The Apprentice - Back to Unreality

After reading a post on Reduce to Common Sense, I was inspired to write my own piece on The Apprentice (UK style). With the news series starting and another bunch of hopefuls setting their sights on working for Sir Alan Sugar, what are we to expect this time around?
Well, how about a candidate who prices lobster at about a sixth of it's market price? That's right. Our first contestant (interviewee?) to be evicted couldn't even price up fish. To be fair who can blame him? He was a trained lawyer, not a businessman. Why on earth was he on the show? He was not a man who aspired to be an entrepreneur but was just there to be a part of the publicity. More fool him, I'm not too sure who would be looking to take him on now after a total capitulation in the board room.
I'm a fan of The Apprentice but the concept of the show as being Reality TV goes straight over my head. It is greatly entertainting, watching egos get destroyed and people who claim to be 'the best in the world' getting put straight into their place. One female contestant actually suggested she is the best salesperson in Europe. I'd like to see her detailed research into this which no doubt is available (just Google isaythingstomakemefeelgood.com and you'll find it).
The problem I have with the show is the fact that it isn't in any way real. How many jobs have you applied for that require knowledge of accounting, marketing, purchasing, sales, a bit of law and various other bits thrown in. What job are these people actually applying for? If I saw a specification like that I'd run the other way instantly. The whole reason they are there is to appear on TV and nothing more. If Sir Alan wants to find an 'Apprentice,' it won't be here as shown with previous winners who have quit the position within months. It is turning more into the X-Factor every year.
I will watch the series and see how it pans out. I have become rather endeared to Raef who has a clear belief that arrogance and vanity are virtues to behold. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on after confessing in the premiere of the series that he can't manage people other than himself. There is also an Essex boy in there who I'm just waiting to burst out with some sort of Ali G impression.

The David Beckham Phenomena

David Beckham is a man who has everything. He is idolised by men for his athletic prowess and by women for his devilish good looks. Of course, many athletes over the years have tried to improve their status by throwing in the glamour card but I can't remember one who has done it to the extent of Beckham. When a female fan is willing to lick every toilet seat in a hotel in the hope that she gets a taste' of her idol you know that you've done alright. Well, David was there by 2004.

How to Become a Soccer Goalkeeper

In any great team, it is the attacking players that tend to get the glory. Everyone dreams of scoring the winning goal in the cup final and soaking up the fans chanting their name as if they are a God. There's only one Marc Steel, only one Marc Steel.' However, behind any top side there is a world class goalkeeper. If you don't concede, you can't lose and the goalkeeper, the last line of defence can more often than not, be the match winner. Why is the English Premier League so Popular?

Why the English Premier League is so popular is really a bit of a mystery. For those living in the country, ticket and merchandise prices are so excessive that only a minority can get to the games and actually afford to enjoy themselves while there. The number of foreigners in the league is so huge that if this was any other professional there would be instant condemnation. The same three or fours clubs tend to win everything and the lack of respect shown towards officials week in week out is anything but impressive.

The Best Paid Players in English Football

The English Premiership; a place where mediocre soccer players income tax amounts to more than Average Joe earns in a year. Salaries in the Premiership have spiralled out of control in recent years, following a saga of TV deals with different channels battling for the rights to show live games. English football has never been richer than it is today and the injection of money has led to many salary ceilings being broken and contracts being renewed as clubs strive to hang on to their demanding players.

England's Most Famous Football Players

A number of great players have been lucky enough to play for the England national team. It is quite unfortunate that some of the best players did not find their way to fame like those of the present day due to the lack of mass media that has only developed fully in the last few decades.
Being from the UK, it is quite difficult to suggest which players are famous on a global level. I know for fact that I could name perhaps four American Football players (all of which play for the Patriots) so this may well be the same case for other nations who are attempting to name English soccer players. Nonetheless, I will have a go at naming who I think are the most famous players to wear the Three Lions' on their shirt.

The effects of Reality TV

To paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill, never have so many watched TV with so little good to say about it. This is the essence of the success of reality TV, it survives because of the sheer contempt that its audience have for it. How many times have you found yourself watching Big Brother or The Bachelorette whilst quizzing yourself on why you are watching such rubbish? It makes us feel tasteless, dirty and cheap and if it didn't I'm sure that we wouldn't bother watching it. People are just totally gripped by misanthropy, the ridiculous and the cruel to an extent where they just can't divorce themselves from it.

TV Shows - Supernanny

Supernanny goes quite a way to giving proof to the old clich that children should come with instructions. Each week, British nanny Jo Frost arrives on the doorstep of a totally dysfunctional household and teaches the parents what to do. Her job is to observe, find the problems, give the solutions and then let the parents of the leash to practice what she has preached. After a couple of days she goes back to the family and tells them the results which are usually quite positive. Just imagine a world of no more kiddie tantrums!

How to Get on Reality TV

With the plethora of Reality TV shows taking over our television screens, the majority of the viewing public are attempting to get their own fifteen minutes of fame. They are certainly not high art but they're cheap to make and people keep tuning in to see if someone has devised a new way to challenge and humiliate the contestants.

The principle underlying the shows seems to be that with a camera stuck in their face, nobody is boring and viewers are intrigued by the emotional plight of the participants. You must remember as well that the winner is always rewarded, usually financially (of course in American Idol they get a recording contract but ultimately that leads to a financial reward). So if this is something that you would like to do, how do you go about being on American Idol, The Bachelorette, Survivor or The Apprentice? I should add, for most of these shows you'll need to be 21 years old so teenagers can divert your eyes.

Advantages of Going Paperless

In modern day business, many companies are weighing up the option of developing a paperless environment. Electronic management can have a huge impact on the everyday processes and procedures within the company by increasing productivity and streamlining the workflows within. There are numerous benefits to going paperless.
When you are attempting to manage a company with various locations and a number of departments, there may sometimes be two or three copies of the same document and an electronically managed system can eliminate the need for this replication. Take real estate for example where it is often the case that the legal, lease administration and accounting departments will all require a copy of an identical file. This leads to three departments with three totally different filing systems. If an amendment needs to be made, each department will have to be informed so that they can update the requisite document. By scanning the documents and making them available electronically, besides saving space, they become available to everyone who needs them without creating several copies.
A system which is centralised also assists in communication within the company. If all files are being saved to a shared network, they are available to everyone instantly as opposed to the slow process of passing round hard copies. Everybody knows where to look to find the file they are looking for and the overall dynamics of the company can be vastly improved.
By incorporating a web based system into the company, you will be able to allow third parties to view files with ease, without the risk of losing them en route. This could be especially important for legal documents that need to be transferred at speed or for vital information that is required by suppliers. Naturally, you can set limits on the system so that only certain people are able to view specific documents in order to maintain integrity and security. A substantial amount of time can be saved by not having to send copies of documents to various groups but giving instant access instead.
A further benefit of the paperless environment is the speed that you can look something up. Just think about how long it can take to go over to the filing cabinet, sift through hundreds of documents and still not find what you are looking for. With an electronically based system, all it would take is a quick search on the computer, perhaps by keyword of what you are trying to find and it will appear on your screen. As long as the system is managed properly and all documents are named effectively, they will be very easy to locate.
Although it can take a significant amount of time and effort to set up a paperless environment at first, the benefits in the long run will largely outweigh the costs. Once the people within the company get acclimatised to the system you will notice considerable improvements in the time in take to complete tasks and the communication process of doing them.

Are Supermarkets Taking Over the Retail Sector?

Over the past few years, Tesco have headed a supermarket revolution. The chain of stores has got to a point where they are almost the central attraction in many small towns across the country. Does Product Packaging Significantly Influence Buying Behaviour?

Mr Smith walks into his local supermarket with his wifes' shopping list. He looks down it and notices 'Neutrogena' so goes to try and find it for her. There are various Neutrogena products on the shelf, each with similarly coloured packaging and no way to tell the difference between any of them apart from something called 'Beta Hydroxy' which of course he had no idea what it was. The only difference between the products was the price, so naturally Mr Smith chose the cheaper option.

Is 40 Really the New 30?

So, it has been suggested that turning 40 is the new 30. What exactly does this mean? Are we going to see Club 18-30 holidays replaced by Club 28-40? In which case is 30 also the new 20? What it means is that where once turning 30 was where we looked and pondered at our lives and set aside all the childish things that we do, we can now do when we are 40. Fantastic. The most irresponsibly fortunate in Western society have managed to prolong their apparent immaturity for a further ten years and suffer even more monumentously when hitting their half century!

Were the Beatles Bigger Than Jesus?

John Lennon made this comment now over 40 years ago and I am in no doubt that he was correct for the context in which he intended to say it. He received a great amount of flack for his comments that The Beatles are 'more popular than Jesus now' mainly because they were quoted out of context in a US Teen Magazine. People reacted by both burning Lennon's albums and to a greater extreme, sending him death threats.

Should Smoking be Allowed in Public Places?

I'm going to tell you the story of a young jolly chap named Dave. Dave is twenty three years old and has never touched a cigarette or, god forbid, any sort of illegal substance in his life. Dave enjoys sports and likes to keep himself healthy but does occasionally indulge himself with a drop if light beer at his favourite bar every so often. He gets to the bar on what is usually a busy Friday night and notices that the usual smell of stale smoke seems to have gone. Ah, yes its non-smoking here now, hasn't that smoking ban worked wonders? Dave looks around to find his mates and goes to sit with them. Shouldn't be too hard, it looks quite empty, I suppose its still quite early though.

Which are better, fast or slow zombies?

The older Zombie movies such as Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead and Day of the Dead all featured slow zombies. The rotting flesh, stiff joints and probable lack of limbs naturally makes them slower. However, what about a recently turned zombie? Surely they don't instantly turn into this clumsy reck of an ex-human being? A freshly turned Zombie sprinting past the old decrepit Zombie is far more fun and to me makes far more sense. I can't understand how somebody can be scared of a Zombie walking towards them at a snail's pace, why can't they just run away? Ok, so Zombie movies aren't supposed to be realistic but I would like to see some sort of feasability.

Does Technology Impoverish the Mind?

In the beginning there was no technology but man was able to survive. Unfortunately though, man got a little fed up with walking across the lands for miles so started to use a donkey. That was much easier. Some of them even tried using camels. Man had a problem when he came to a river though as donkey's don't like swimming so he built himself a boat out of wood. Of course, this was too small to go across oceans so man started to develop ships so he could travel. Unfortunately, when he got to the other side of the Atlantic, the donkey's and camel's had died as they do so were no good. Man invented the car, all he had to do was sit there and let the wheels do the work. Brilliant. He looked cool in his car while the others were still riding donkeys. Driving in style started to get a bit slow though so man wanted to fly. The aeroplane came. What he had was never enough and man got greedy. Soon man built buildings, phones and bombs just to be safe.

The Impact of the 2012 Olympics on the Construction Industry

From the time London was awarded the 2012 Olympic Games in July 2005, the impact on the construction trade has been a point of speculation for many pundits. Since 2002, the UK construction industry has reported buoyant conditions with some large housing and office projects managing to catapult the total value of the market up by some 15%. It is certainly an industry that is still on the rise so why are so many construction economists fearing the worst when it comes to the Olympic Games? One concern is that the project has been blown completely out of proportion with regard to the amount of work that is actually available. Various figures have been speculated but how accurate are they really. In a report by the CITB Construction skills, who are conducting a huge analysis into the Olympic impact on construction, it is estimated that the Olympic workforce will peak at around 7,500. The report shows that the industry has taken in somewhere between 20 and 40 times the this amount of workers from Eastern Europe in less time than it will take to build the Olympics! Does 7,500 workers constitute a substantial impact in an industry that currently employs over 2 million people and is already creating work at a higher rate than that predicted for the Olympic Games? In the grand scheme of things, are the Olympic Games really such a huge project? Would much of the planned work go ahead anyway even if London were not hosting the Olympics, like Stratford City for example?

Will Censorship Destroy the Internet?

In February 2008, the Pakistani government ordered the video sharing site YouTube to be taken out of service for containing un-Islamic material. There was a two hour outage of the site which was apparently caused by 'erroneous Internet protocols' sourced in Pakistan. It was reported that YouTube had some Danish cartoons published on the site which contained references to the prophet Muhammad. In essence, the Pakistan Telecom Authority hijacked the YouTube server to block the site around the world. The question here is to what extent should governments been able to intervene when it comes to the Internet? Surely this is another case of taking away freedom of speech? Was the Internet not devised to create a platform for freedom of speech in the first place which isn't always easily accessible in the real world?

Political Implications of the Movie '300'

Prior to watching this movie, I had heard rumours saying that it showed strong aspects of racism, to an extent where a friend of mine was actually refusing to view it. I can't say I knew the story of '300' before the movie and from the trailers it just looked like a macho blood fest with fight scenes akin to those of the 'Lord of The Rings' battle field. However, it wasn't long until I found I was mistaken and through watching the film, realised that there could be a potentially large number of political implications. I will go through these potential political implications before saying why I am almost convinced to disregard them.
